ICG Fluorescence Technique for the Detection of Sentinel Lymph Nodes in Breast Cancer: Results of a Prospective Open-label Clinical Trial Sentinel-Lymphknoten-Detektion beim Mammakarzinom mittels Fluoreszenztechnik – eine Alternative zum Technetiumverfahren?

چکیده
Introduction: Detection of sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) is the standard procedure to evaluate axillary lymph node status in breast cancer. In addition to known and established procedures such as the blue dye method and scintigraphy, this study investigated the efficacy of a method based on use of the fluorescent dye indocyanine green (ICG). Patients and Method: A total of 126 women with breast cancer histologically verified by punch biopsy were studied during surgical removal of SLN. In addition to SLN marking with technetium and scintigraphy, intra-individual comparison was done using indocyanine green (ICG) for marking instead of the standard blue dye. Results: Scintigraphy had a detection rate of 96%; the detection rate with ICG was just under 89%. A bodymass index (BMI) > 40was found to be a limiting factor for the fluorescent method. Investigation into potential toxicities associated with the use of the fluorescent dye ICG revealed no systemic or even local side effects. The fluorescent method was found to be significantly less expensive than the scintigraphy method. Conclusion: The ICG fluorescence technique for the detection of SLN was found to be a valid and feasible method in clinical practice when compared directly with the blue dyemethod and scintigraphy. Sentinel Node Mapping in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Using an Intraoperative Radiotracer Technique
Objective(s): Lymph node metastases are the most significant prognostic factor in localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Identification of the first nodal drainage site (sentinel node) may improve detection of metastatic nodes. Extended surgeries, such as lobectomy or pneumonectomy with lymph node dissection, are among the therapeutic options of higher acceptab...
متن کاملSentinel lymph node in cervical cancer
Background: Cervical cancer is the second most common type of cancer among women. Effective screening programs can help cancer detection in early phases and reduce death. Metastasis to lymph nodes is one of the most prognostic factors in patients who underwent surgery. Also, a positive result from pathology report alert oncologist as a cause of death. Sentinel lymph node biopsy has been widely ...
متن کاملSentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer patients using fluorescence navigation with indocyanine green
BACKGROUND There are various methods for detecting sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) using a vital dye is a convenient and safe, intraoperatively preparative method to assess lymph node status. However, the disadvantage of the dye method is that the success rate of sentinel lymph node detection depend on the surgeon's skills and preoperative mapping of the...
متن کاملFeasibility of sentinel lymph node mapping in renal cell carcinoma using intraoperative radiotracer injection
Introduction: The applicability of sentinel lymph node biopsy for early detection of metastasis in patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is still in the validation phase and under investigation, which might be due to the unpredictability of the lymphatic pattern in RCC. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of sentinel node biopsy in patients with ...
متن کاملUse of Fluorescence Imaging in Combination with Patent Blue Dye versus Patent Blue Dye Alone in Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in Breast Cancer
PURPOSE Near-infrared fluorescence imaging with indocyanine green (ICG) has the potential to improve sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in breast cancer. In this clinical trial, we compared the potential value of ICG combined with blue dye with that of blue dye alone for detecting SLNs. METHODS Patients undergoing SLN biopsy (SLNB) between November 2010 and November 2013 were included. Up to D...
